Acute resolving infection is what happens in the minority (one in three or four) of infected people. The immune system successfully fights off the hepatitis C virus. Some of the the liver may be damaged during this fight, which is why you may be sick with flu-like symptoms, or even jaundice (turning yellow). However, these symptoms should go away on its own. Once the infection is gone, you are not immune and can be re-infected if you are exposed again.
