Hepatitis C is a very common infection worldwide. Certain countries have more than their fair share of hepatitis C, and this may be due to local medical practices in the past. The regions with a higher proportion of hepatitis C infection include Egypt, Vietnam, and southern Italy (those born before 1950). In Canada, hepatitis C affects about 0.8% of the people in all communities.
