Clinician Scholar
What is a clinician scholar?
Upon completion of the TWH Liver Centre Clinician Scholar program, it is expected that the trainee will be proficient and expert in the care of patients with hepatitis B and hepatitis C. Furthermore, the trainee will also be expert in another aspect of liver disease of their choice, for example autoimmune liver disease, liver disease in HIV, etc. It is also expected that the trainee participate in scholarly activities that will allow them to be community leaders.
Application deadline: November 16, 2008
Fellowship duration: July 1, 2009 to June 30, 2010. Option to start in October 2009 after subspecialty exams.
Eligibility: Anyone with a valid medical license to practice in Canada
- Gastroenterologists
- Internists
- Infectious Disease specialists
- Family Practitioners
Funding: All successful applicants are expected to apply for funding from the Canadian Association for the Study of the Liver
Clinical Responsibilities:
- Hepatitis B clinic once weekly
- Hepatitis C clinic once weekly
- Third clinic, choice of autoimmune liver disease, HIV, psychiatry - we will tailor training to your career goals
Scholarly Responsibilities:
- Attend all educational rounds:
- Liver Clicopathological Conference - weekly
- Hepatobiliary Rounds - monthly
- Hepatoma Boards - weekly
- Advanced Liver Seminar Series - weekly
- Journal Club - weekly
- Choice of other scholarly activities
- Website content development
- Patient educational material
- Healthcare provider educational material
- Discussion forum for OHIG - the Ontario Hepatitis Interest Group
- Answer common questions that arise while treating viral hepatitis
- Contribute to new treatment algorithms and treatment strategies
- Practice review for Quality Assurance studies
- Community interaction and educational activities
- Physician groups
- Patient groups
- Website content development
