- THSP: Toronto Hepatoma Screening Program

If you get your ultrasound done at a TWH Liver Clinic, you will likely be enrolled in THSP. The liver clinic sees a lot of people with cirrhosis. This is a way to make sure that everyone with a new lump gets the right tests. It starts with the routine ultrasound. If a lump is seen, the X-Ray department will automatically book further "contrast-enhanced studies". If the studies still don't come up with an answer, they will automatically book a biopsy. Once the results are back, you will need to see your doctor at the TWH Liver Clinic to find out what more needs to be done. If it turns out to be cancer, your case will be reviewed at the weekly TWH Hepatoma rounds. X-Ray doctors, liver doctors, liver surgeons, transplant doctors, cancer chemotherapy doctors, cancer radiation therapy doctors, and others come to these rounds every Tuesday afternoon. The contrast studies will be reviewed and a recommendation for further care will be given.
